I grew up loving a Wendy’s Frosty and I was so excited to try to recreate this recipe at home. This is my copycat recipe for the Wendy’s Frosty. It tastes just like I remembered, both in flavor and texture! It’s made with just three ingredients: chocolate milk, whipped topping and sweetened condensed milk. You are going to love this nostalgic recipe!

Wendy’s Frosty Ingredients
- Chocolate Milk – I didn’t have any chocolate milk on hand, so I mixed some chocolate syrup into the milk I had. This recipe works great with dairy milk or almond.
- Whipped Topping – I always get the extra creamy kind. This makes the recipe light and creamy, setting it apart from milkshakes.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk – This gives the frosty its unique texture as well as rich sweetness.
How To Make a Wendy’s Frosty
The most important part of this recipe is getting the correct texture. Frosties are special because they are not as thick as a milkshake and they have a very unique texture.
There are two ways to make this recipe, with or without an ice cream maker. I suggest the ice cream maker method if you have one. I use this $50 Ice Cream Maker. It’s small and exactly what I needed for this recipe.
Begin by blending the three ingredients together until smooth in a blender.
Ice Cream Maker Method: Pour your mixture into your ice cream maker to maximum capacity (mine had to be made in two batches for the size of my ice cream maker). Begin running on the ice cream setting and your frosty will be the perfect texture in 20 to 30 minutes.
Without Ice Cream Maker Method: If you don’t have an ice cream maker, you can still make this recipe. Simply freeze your frosty mixture in a Tupperware container for two hours, taking it out to stir every 30 minutes.
My favorite way to serve a frosty is with a straw AND a spoon.
Tips for Making
- Variations: You can make a Strawberry Frosty by substituting the chocolate milk for strawberry milk. You can also make a Peppermint Frosty by adding 1/2 teaspoon Peppermint Extract to your mixture.
- Try adding mini chocolate chips.
- To make a boozy frosty, add a shot of Kahlua and stir it into your frosty just before serving.
- Serve with cherries or other toppings if you like!

I was really happy to find a recipe for the Frosty. I have wondered a long time on what ingredients to use. I live in a warm climate and can now have one of my favorites at home without it melting before I get there. Thanks a bunch Elsie!
How would you make this a vanilla frosty?
To make a vanilla Frosty, I would try using vanilla flavored almond milk and add vanilla syrup or possibly vanilla extract similar to the peppermint extract amount.
Do you need to eat all of it immediately? Or can it be frozen? Looks delicious!
Hi! You can freeze the mixture to use later (you just have to thaw it and follow the instructions to make it a frosty). Also you can keep the mixture in the fridge a few days before making the frosty if needed 🙂
This looks so GOOD 🤤
Oh I can’t wait to make this! I live an hour away from the closest Wendy’s! These really are the best chocolate shakes anywhere.
I’m so happy the recipe is helpful! You’re going to love it. :))
