I know. Jello shots. Just those two words might conjure up some funny references. I typically think of bowling alley jello shots first. But believe me, these are far from those bright blue or red, super-crazy, sweet, little jello shots you might see served at a bowling alley.
Anyway. My point is, these are good. These are lemon drop jello shots that you could be totally proud to serve at your next backyard barbecue or take on your next camping trip to share with friends (or try our Pudding Shots (with video!) as well!).

These are a delicious blend of citrus vodka. These are inspired by lemon drop martinis. These are indeed sweet, but not so much that it overshadows the citrus flavor. Serving them in lemon or orange rinds also adds a little class.
You heard me. I said these are classy jello shots. 🙂
Lemon Drop Jello Shots, makes around two dozen.
1 cup water
1 cup sugar (I used superfine, but granulated will work as well)
3 envelopes of unflavored gelatin
1 cup fresh lemon juice
3/4 cup vodka
In a small pot over medium heat, stir together the water and sugar until the sugar dissolves.
Whisk in the gelatin until well combined. Then stir in the lemon juice and vodka. Allow the mixture to slightly cool before pouring it into your lemon rinds. When pouring, use a vessel with a small spout as this will make it much easier.
Cut lemons (or oranges) in half. Use a spoon to scoop out the insides. Don’t worry; this is MUCH easier than using limes like we did for these mojito jello shots. Limes are kind of tough; lemons are easy.
Fill each half with the jello mixture while it’s still liquid. I fill the bottom of a shallow dish, like a pie pan, with sugar to help hold the lemon rinds upright so the liquid doesn’t pour out.
Refrigerate and allow the jello to fully set (at least a couple hours or overnight). Once set, you can slice them up into smaller wedges. I sliced mine into three wedges per lemon half.
Dip half the jello shot in a little sugar. Just for fun. These are great for summer, so get your jello shot on and make these this weekend! xo. Emma

These are setting up for tomorrow’s BBQ. I put the lemon halves in a cupcake pan and the rest in a casserole dish to slice into squares. this recipe is awesome, thank you!
Last year, I used your mojito lime jello shots as inspiration to try a few other variations.
I did a “creamsicle” with whipped cream vodka in oranges, and a strawberry lemonade with lemon juice, a berry vokda, and some small chunks of fresh strawberries dropped into the lemon halves as the jello starts to cool.
The lemon ones were by farrrr the favorite and much easier than the limes to clean out.
Does the jello stay in the lemon wedge once cut into 1/3 rdd
Yes, it does.
this is such a great idea!! so clever!

I once made something like this with oranges and I used a muffin tray to put the orange halves in so that they wouldn’t tip over – maybe that works for lemons, too? (saves the sugar bowl)

Yum! My friend and I did many experiments with fruit filled jello shots after reading your lime post. We did limes, oranges… and even filled an entire half of a water melon with fruit punch jungle juice alcoholic jello… which really was just hilarious and not to mention drunk inducing. But LEMONS, I’m all about it.
I love love love lemon so these would be delicious.
