What could say summer more than a nice big slice of watermelon? Well, what if that watermelon slice was actually a giant watermelon jello shot?? I know, I know, a total dream come true.
We’ve filled fruit with jello and alcohol before (pink lemonade jello shots, orange creamsicle jello shots, and mojito jello shots) but when I saw you could fill a watermelon and cut it up into slices, well, I had to try it!

As you can see, not only is it possible, but it’s beyond adorable and delicious as well!
half of 1 medium watermelon
2 boxes of watermelon jello or red colored jello (3-ounce boxes)
1 box of unflavored gelatin (4 envelopes total)
2 cups of water
2 cups of vodka
Use a watermelon tool or an ice cream scoop to scoop out the inside of the watermelon and set aside (to later eat, of course!). You want to scoop out most of the red flesh but still leave about 1/2″ of the red part above the white rind.
Place the hollowed out watermelon on a cookie sheet with paper towels folded/stuffed on either side to keep it from tipping over.
Mix your two boxes of jello with the 4 packets of unflavored gelatin. Add in 2 cups of boiling water and stir until dissolved. Once dissolved, add in two cups of vodka and stir to combine.
Pour the liquid into the halved watermelon (fill to the top!) and place in the fridge for 3-4 hours until the jello is set. The hardest part of this recipe is carrying the tray to the fridge without spilling it!
Once the jello is set, use a large knife to cut the slices like you normally would. The jello fills into the watermelon some so the top level shrinks a bit.
Just use the knife to even out any rind that sticks up higher than your slices, and you’re ready to serve your shots!
Of course, one whole slice would be a pretty giant jello shot, so feel free to cut them into smaller wedges or have guests cut their own.
There is more unflavored gelatin in this recipe than usual to ensure the slices keep their shape, but if you feel like you can “taste” the unflavored gelatin, you can reduce the amount a little without losing the desired stiffness.
How popular would you be if you brought these to your next summer picnic? This treat will most certainly make you the queen of the next block party, so grab yourself a watermelon and start scooping! xo. Laura

So cute and refreshing!
Here is a way to jello making…..Mix your two boxes of jello with the 4 packets of unflavored gelatin. Add in 2 cups of boiling water and stir until dissolved. Once dissolved, add in two cups of vodka and stir to combine. Pour the liquid into the halved watermelon (fill to the top!) and place into the fridge for 3-4 hours until the jello is set.
These watermelon jello shots are fun, good & the hit of any spring/summer get together. Easy to make & everyone enjoyed them & the effort that was put into it – plus now they are requested!!!
Making this for the 4th tomorrow! However, i strained my spooned out watermelon for the juice and boiled two cups of that. Couldn’t find watermelon jello, so I used strawberry. Figured fused with the watermelon juice will be amazing. Here’s hoping! ((Fingers crossed))
How fun! I definitely want to try this on Home.
Dish looks good and may be taste also different. we are very excited about this.
Superrrrrr…
Very nice Thanks for sharing.
watermelon shots as these are fun and fresh. I do all types of edible shots. Reading complaints of tasty, fun but jello slides off. Answer: REMOVE ALL THE MEAT OF THE WATERMELON. LEAVE ONLY THE WHITE. Next: puree enough watermelon meat to equal 3/4 cup, add 1/4 water or juice, puree to equal together to 1 cup. Add a cup of watermelon flavored fruit drink. The latter will be your 2 cups of non-alcohol liquid. Use THREE OLIVES FRESH WATERMELON VODKA (I PREFER 3 OLIVES) OR SMIIRNOFF WATERMELON, JOLLY RANCHER WATERMELON JELL-O, KNOX GELATIN AS PER RECIPE. Use sugarbaby wtermelons, use a BOWL to set your hulled watermelon half before filling with mixture to allow you the ability to make it level and sit in fridg without spilling. Let chill overnight. ONCE SET…. PLACE YOU SHARP KNIFE IN FREEZER FOR A FEW MINUTES SO BLADE IS COLD. SLICE …KEEP CHILLED TIL READY TO SERVE. ***** LEAVING THE WATERMELON MEAT, REGARDLESS OF HOW LITTLE CAUSES YOUR JELLO MIXTURE, ONCE SET, TO BREAK DOWN CAUSE THE JELLO TO SLIDE OFF THR RIND. mAKING YOUR SLICES TOO LARGE, WILL ALLOW THE SHOTS TO BREAK OFF.
I gave this a shot and admittedly it didn’t look quite as pretty as your photos…but still tasty! The jello kept sliding off of the watermelon 🙁
Thanks for the recipe!

You could put the watermelon in a bowl to make it easier to carry to the fridge..
I’m with Molly – I saw the second photograph and instantly decided that if Jolly Rancher Jello is a thing, I MUST have it. I can see this being a big hit at a party… just gotta keep it away from the kids! 🙂
Brilliant idea!! So attractive for a buffet display too! 🙂 Xxx

Use Watermelon Vodka for even more flavor!
Aw, thanks!
Laura 🙂
Yes, it’s the extra gelatin that keeps it in place 🙂
