What I love most about this whiskey sour recipe is how simple it is. There are a number of ways and variations on a whiskey sours. My favorite is simple with only three ingredients. But sometimes it’s made with the addition of egg white, which is often called a Boston Sour.

What is in a Whiskey Sour?
The recipe below is three ingredients: whiskey, homemade sour mix, and a splash of club soda. If you don’t have sour mix, you can substitute it with fresh lemon juice and simple syrup. But I prefer sour mix as the flavors are a little more complex.
This version of a whiskey sour is usually served in a rocks glass with ice.
This version reminds me of one of my favorite cocktail of all time: a sidecar. It’s simple to make, on the boozy side, but still really refreshing with a big hit of citrus.
The other version of a whiskey sour is sometimes called a Boston sour. This version is whiskey, sour mix (or lemon and simple) and egg white. The egg white is what creates the foamy top of this cocktail.
This version is usually served in a chilled coupe or martini glass.
If you love a cocktail with egg white for that foamy top try this peach and basil whiskey sour recipe.
Simple Whiskey Sours, makes 1
2 ounces bourbon whiskey
2 ounces sour mix
big splash of club soda
Combine the whiskey and sour mix in a small glass with ice. Give it a stir. Top off the drink with a big splash of club soda. If you want to garnish the drink, try a lemon wedge, rind, or a cherry.
You can adjust the sweetness level by adding a little more or less of sour mix. Cheers! Emma

Powdered sugar! Brilliant! Why haven’t i heard of that before? What a great way to get around the dissolving-sugar-in-cold-liquids problem. Thanks.
Thanks for this! This is so happening later on!

I’ve definitely tried a lot of drinks. Not a proud moment here, but I’ve never had a whisky sour. We’ve got some Maker’s sitting on the shelf, I’ll have to give it a try! Love all of your food/drink posts!
