I LOVE crockpot mac and cheese. It’s got to be one of the all time best comfort foods in the world. It makes sense that it tends to be a kid’s menu favorite. Kids know what’s up when it comes to macaroni and cheese.
You’ll notice that this particular macaroni and cheese is made in a crockpot, sometimes called a slow cooker. Where I’m from we tend to call it the former so this is my favorite crockpot mac and cheese recipe.
This mac and cheese is thick, creamy, super garlicky and so good. You’ll eat so much, you’ll end up needing a nap afterward. You have been warned.

Ingredients
- Macaroni noodles
- Butter
- Garlic
- Cream cheese
- Whole milk
- Cheddar cheese – or a mixture of Colby, Pepper jack, etc.
- Salt and pepper
- Chives, optional
Directions
Cook the noodles according to the package directions for al dente. You really want the noodles to be slightly undercooked (as opposed to overcooked) because they will absorb more moisture while they cook in the slow cooker.
In a large sauce pan, heat the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for one minute. Now add the cream cheese, 2 cups of the milk and the shredded cheese. Stir until well combined and the cheese begins to melt. Remove from heat.
In a bowl, whisk together the eggs and remaining 1 cup of milk. Add a little bit of the hot, cheesy liquid to this bowl and stir. This will help to temper the eggs so they don’t cook too quickly.
Now add everything to a slow cooker. Season with salt and pepper. Give it a stir. Place the lid on top and cook on low for 1 hour.
While that cooks, you could steam some broccoli to serve alongside this and make yourself feel better about all the cheese and carbs you’re about to consume. Also, steamed broccoli is delicious.
Top with chives and maybe a little more pepper. If you have leftovers, warm them up the next day for lunch. xo. Emma

Cooking for my nephew this week and made this yummy mac and cheese! Thank you for such a great, easy, and delicious recipe!
Still love this recipe!
This recipe is in our recipe rotation. We do a lot of cooking ahead so I’ve modified the recipe to be baked rather than cooked in the crock pot. The added bonus is the browned cheesy top! Thanks for the recipe.
Wow, this is very good.
I have a question…how do you make sure the cheesey sauce doesn’t become crumbly once it goes in the crock pot for one hour? I made this last night and it was soooo yummy but since my sauce was crumbly, it didn’t look as pretty!
Is the egg necessary?
I guess I don’t really get why you bother with the slow cooker rather than just using the [already dirty] pot you used to cook the pasta?
The pics are gorgeous, though, and make me hungry for mac’n’cheese. Too bad my kids detest it [although they love mac and pretty much any mild cheese … go figure]
These delicious images have definitely got me craving a bowlful of mac and cheese – look SO creamy. The perfect comfort food.. pinned!
Hi guys, thanks for the AWESOME recipe. I am an ardent Mac n Cheese connoisseur, I’m always looking for new variations. I was wondering, though, if you would consider looking into a ‘easy print’ plug-in for your website – it would make it so much easier for those of us who like to print out recipes and file them for dinner ideas 🙂
Thanks! 🙂
so delicious!! I used 2% milk and low fat cream cheese and it was still creamy and amazing. all of your recipes are great!
I`ve never made mac&cheese but I’m going to cook this recipe as soon as possible!!
Do you know, I’ve never actually eaten mac n cheese? I know, I know, I’m sorry, but I’m at 38 year old English woman, it just wasn’t a staple of my childhood. That being said, I’ve been meaning to try it for a while, and this recipe may just tip me over that edge, you had me at garlicky! Looks so yummy!
I can’t wait to make this next week for dinner! I LOVE Mac N Cheese – I am part water part cheese. Thanks for sharing Emma! This is going to make my DAY! Have a great one – Iva
