Annabelle, Davidson, and Maurice

Annabelle, Davidson, and Maurice

"Annabelle, Davidson, and Maurice" by Bryn Mooser

These three kids are a few of the many being treated at St. Damien hospital outside Port au Prince, by Fr Rick Frechette, the Doctor and community organizer who leads Artists for Peace and Justice in our quest to bring a better life to Haitian children.

Annebelle, on the left, was badly hurt in the earthquake and is wearing that cap because she lost part of her skull.

Davidson, in the middle, was found alone in a pile of bodies in the rubble. He sustained severe physical damage, including the loss of fingers, but is an amazing trooper, and he has an incredible bright spirit. I remember him running through the hospital taking imaginary photos on the toy camera I gave him.

Maurice, on the right, is suffering from Hydrcephalus, a medical condition in which there is an abnormal accumulation of fluid “on the brain.” He made me smile every morning in Haiti. I just couldn’t wait to see his happy face. He loves little cars, which he calls “machines!”
